In past centuries, bowmakers looking for a way to distinguish their best work often sought out rare and valuable materials to use for frogs, buttons, and grips. Before conservation efforts made their use illegal, some bowmakers used frogs and buttons of ivory, or of specially laminated tortoise shell on their top quality bows. Vintage bows with these special frogs and buttons are now among the most coveted by collectors and players. Our workshop has created a bow to match these vintage bows, but the tortoise shell we use is a realistic imitation of the real thing. Model 110 bows are the same as model 100 bows in all respects, except that they are mounted with imitation tortoise shell frogs and buttons.
