Our French model basses are patterned after the famous turn-of-the-century Charles Quenoil solo model bass. Our French solo model was created after requests from a number of players and dealers for a professional quality solo bass in a modest price range. These 3/4 basses exhibit highly sloped shoulders and narrow upper-bout ribs to facilitate high-position playing while preserving overall body volume to allow for a clear, penetrating solo timbre. Eastman Strings makes French pattern basses in two levels: model 305-FR and model 605-FR. Both are patterned after Quenoil, and have the material and craftsmanship specifications of the other model 305 and 605 basses. (The model 305-FR is pictured above.) While genuine Charles Quenoil basses are rare and expensive, they (and master copies of them) are popular world-wide with bass soloists. Eastman Strings’ French model basses are the first to make the unique playing and tonal properties of this pattern available at relatively modest prices.
